Writing these blog posts over the last eight weeks has been a fun experience. Today will be my last post on the PR Rookie because I am now moving on to a new chapter. I’m excited about what the future holds, and I intend to keep an open mind.
This traineeship has allowed me to explore different areas of the industry and learn more about myself. I want to think that in five to ten years, I will be more established within the field, and I hope to have an extensive Public Relations and Communications career and knowledge in different areas. My hope is that I become more confident in my writing abilities. For instance, when it comes to writing press releases, media lists, pitching, and many more challenging skills. I like to be open-minded and let God take control. God is a significant part of my life, and I let him guide the way; I leave everything to him.
Although I am very interested in PR and Communications, my journalistic background is something that I would like to honour. As a Multimedia Journalism graduate, I want to use the tools I picked up during my degree throughout my career. I want to work as a freelance journalist on the side and would like to work on documentaries one day. Making documentaries about issues within the third world is something I am deeply passionate about, and I know that my PR career will support this aspiration.
I am happy to announce that I have secured an internship with Propeller Group. I am looking forward to this new chapter and what it will entail. Propeller Group is one of the agencies we visited during the traineeship. I’m excited about this new role because I know it will be a transformative experience that will allow me to unlock new skills and provide me with industry insight. I hope to meet new people, make friends, and see where this unique opportunity takes me. It feels so nice getting my career running, and it will be great to see what I’ve learned in the end.
One thing that is important to me is giving back to the community. This industry is predominantly white, and I struggled to break into the industry before starting the Taylor Bennett Foundation. In the future, I want to be able to help other young BAME individuals get their place in the industry. It’s important for me to work in a diverse and inclusive environment, and I want anywhere I work to celebrate inclusivity. I hope all my future employers are making changes and looking to change the industry. In the future, I want to work with the Taylor Bennett Foundation and support them in helping people bridge the gap in the PR and Communication industry. I want to mentor people and let people know that PR and Communications are career options. It would genuinely be a full-circle moment!
I know that no matter what, I always want to be challenged in any career.
